The Even Strength Initiative is dedicated to breaking down barriers in youth hockey by providing high-quality equipment and programming suitable for hockey players of all levels. An outdoor performance centre in a central community hub will also benefit the parents and surrounding residents with a free place to exercise, creating healthier families and communities. Our goal is to encourage kids from rural areas and low-income households to participate in the sport and achieve their hockey dreams. By teaming up with Olympic gold medalist and proud Nova Scotian Jillian Saulnier, we are taking a significant step towards making this vision a reality.
Hockey is Canada's sport. Unfortunately, the rising costs associated with the sport have made it inaccessible to the average Canadian family. One of the costs that make hockey expensive is the off-ice commitments like dryland training. Off-ice training isn't optional if you have long-term hockey goals; it's the expectation.
The Even Strength Initiative aims to provide youth hockey players of all levels across Nova Scotia access to a free outdoor performance centre outside their community rink, giving kids a central and local place to off-ice train on their own or with their team.
The Even Strength Initiative provides equipment and elite-level programming to kids at no cost to their families. We hope kids from rural areas or low-income households who once thought the sport was inaccessible to them feel encouraged to play because they see a resource designed to help them succeed and bring their hockey dreams back to even strength.
The Even Strength Initiative also understands the social impact we can have on the communities surrounding the outdoor performance center. A free place to exercise can create healthier lifestyles for families. When parents are active, and kids see the value their parents place on physical activity, kids are more likely to develop healthy habits, and understand the importance of fitness and exercise.
The Even Strength Initiative is proud to partner with Olympic gold medalist and proud Nova Scotian Jillian Saulnier, who has never stopped short of giving back to the community where her hockey dreams were realized. A percentage of all proceeds from the Even Strength Initiative will go to the Jill Saulnier Foundation, which supports various causes across Nova Scotia.

Jillian Saulnier is a two-time Olympian (Gold and Silver medalist), and has been a part of four world championship teams, winning Gold in 2021. Born and raised in Halifax, NS, Jill has proudly worn the #11 with Team Canada since her debut with the Senior National Team in 2014. She played collegiate hockey at Cornell University where she was named the Ivy League and ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2011.
On February 16, 2022, Jill realized her dream of becoming an Olympic gold medal champion. In celebration of this accomplishment, with the help of her friends and family, Jill established the Jill Saulnier Foundation. A second dream of hers, to be able to give back.
The foundation’s 2023 proceeds will be going towards a wellness and recreation room at the IWK Hospital for Children, in partnership with the Ronald McDonald House. The room will bear the foundation’s name and run programming for sick kids at the IWK such as Hockey night in Canada themed evenings, games and many more….
